Food is irreplaceable because of its essence in keeping us healthy and alive. But the breaking news is that almost all what we eat innocently contain silent killer 💀.
The Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh addressed the press about the ways for preservation of almost the food we take in the country are harmful and poisonous.
He exemplified that some rice imported into the country might have been stored for 10 years with usage of hazardous chemicals as a preservative. He mentioned frozen chicken 🐔, frozen fish 🐠, tin food, tomatoes paste, all being imposed into the country.
He also cited that some local food producers also used dangerous chemicals to prepare and preserve food. In open market in part of the country they use insecticide to drive away insects from the smoking fish and some use tyre to burn the cow's skin called "POMO". He said these insidious attitude and practice have been for long time.
He didn't only mentioned these problem but also stated the plans and ongoing actions to stop it. He said his ministry was working with relevant agencies and ministry namely- Ministry of Health, NAFDAC and a international agency, a specialist in food regulations, to set out modalities for foods locally made or imported and necessarily to ban some Imported ones. Soon, he promised his ministry will take decision on nipping it on the bud after all procedures, perfected.
Wait a minutes 😠! what are they doing for God sake, both NAFDAC and Nigerian Custom ? Anyway NAFDAC have really tried in reducing fake drugs. Or what do you think?. Before you say anything, I think they should be rebundled like NNPC😂. Agency for food should be carved out from it,for proper efficiency and effectiveness. But our customs are about show -man . Melodramatically, they show us on TV 📺 goods confiscated and being destroyed but still much adulterated foods heavily flow in and disperse into local market. Precisely they do nothing. They do "let my people go at the border"..... very corrupt, indeed 😬. Total overhauling and purging needed in our custom services. Honestly they are largely culpable. I am no Judge but a opinion maker. 😃
Hopefully, Baba Ogbeh is considering to look into these departments. Happiness for me if he could recommend my observation to appropriate quarters of government.
I know many of us have already aware of usage of harmful preservative for foods we buy and consume before now. But out of no choice we lump it and seek divine protection. We are not guilty of continuous consumption because we have no substitute.
However we can do away of the mentioned foods unless government provides better alternatives to buy cheap life or fresh chicken, meat, and rice produce locally and, much cheaper. And These is achievable through import substitution policy supported by aggressive agricultural and economic policies ; appropriate agencies related to foods should be tampered as I opined jokingly before , but I am very serious.
My gluttony friends😚 or whoever that do not care about anything brought as food, felt eatable, should now be careful because you risk gradual death 💀.
