FUJICIANS FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION. --- By Soa Olaribigbe

By Soa Olaribigbe

Mr Soa Olaribigbe is an ardent lover of Late Dr Sikiru Ayinde Barrister (RIP) and equally the Admin for Chief(Dr) Skiru Ayinde Fans Club on Facebook. He narrates the history of Fuji. He nullifies the claim by K1 Marshal that Dr Sikiru Ayinde Barrister was not the founder of Fuji.

What a lovely narrative in depth belowL

FUJICIANS FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION.
The duo of Ayinde Barrister and Ayinla Kollington dragged the issue of seniority for years. And even some junior artists intervened and most of the recognised fuji musicians agreed that Ayinde Barrister is the fuji creator. Ayinde Wasiu then released a record titled flavours and a particular track in the album titled "Orin dowo", K1 mentioned names of people that have been playing fuji during the Were periods. But K1 simply misjudged the seniority aspect. Perhaps SAB would have been comfortable with his submission if he never mentioned Alhaji Monsuru Akande who happened to be a junior brother to SAB through his mother background in Ipokia. According to SAB, Monsuru Akande once lived with him. And from a competent source, Akande Monsuru left Barrister's house when he did something 'unprintable' to upset SAB. In his album titled "Fertilizer" released in 1985, SAB paid tribute to his seniors during the Were era thus,
🎵Iba fun gbogbo agbagba ninu Ajisari ninu Ajiwere, Baba Raliatu mi Irekori o, Iba ni mose, Talima n'isale Eko iba ni mo se, Sikiru omo Abi, omo Onisemo, Ajadi Ganiu mi l'oluwole, Jolly Lawa mi Kasali, Kasaliu mi Alaniade temi, Kawu Aminu Idoko yeju, Saka Riyawu Olaigbade, Abinuwaye Bashiru eyi tolo s'orun orun're, Ayinla Yekinni Omo Agbajelola, Masewele area lapapo iba ni mo se, General captain Ayindeade mi Ayinde Muniru mi o se, Itakun labiripamole, Taiye laileru iba ni mo se, Iba fun gbogbo agbagba ti nbe nile yi ninu Ajiwere, e je koyemi Ayindeade Oba orin....🎵
The song confirmed that Ayinde conceded seniority to all the people mentioned in his fertilizer album, however SAB omitted another prominent Were artist known as Ayinla Wasiu at Anifowoshe which he once described as "Oga elere" in Itan Ismaia album, he also paid tribute to him in some of his live plays. There are many good Were artists that later played fuji before the emergence of the likes of Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde, but we hardly know about them. Fuji scene can somehow become unpredictable, while the young players were eager to play fuji, the older players were getting bored with it. They've played the standard quality fuji during their time and are eager to try something else. Someone like K1 became prominent because of his commitment and determination to carry on even when playing fuji became very unpleasant and deadly. We must also recognise the fact that the likes of Kawu Aminu, Saka Olaigbade, Jolly lawa played Sakara not fuji during their time. It will be belittling to call them fuji musicians. Also Alhaji Jibowu Barrister which K1 mentioned in his controversial album was never a singer but a composer. Let me attempt to group the generation of fuji players as follows. Not all in particular order.

  1. Very great write ups, however , you cannot place someone that wax record behind others. Monsuru Akande was the first among them to wax record and you have to give credit for that. History can never be rewritten.
