The commendable for 2015 elections and May 29 reality. Written by Rahmon Gbadamosi

The commendable for 2015 elections and May 29 reality.
Written by Rahmon Gbadamosi

We have celebrated and inaugurated the new set of government on May 29.  However, this D-day did not transit into reality in isolation. There were inextricable precedent of peace making, endurance, and sacrifice for the day to be actualised.

Pre - elections atmosphere was engulfed with portent of frenzy as a result of incendiary actions reflected in utterances and undue threats from some vicious and desperate politicians which predisposed the public to apprehension. While militant leaders were heard fuming and making provocation.

Other scary factors that spoked up incensed condition of the country were emanated from spurious speculations and predictions. Like splitting of Nigeria by 2015, postponement saga, interim government conspiracy, handling over to the military e.t.c

Virtually, very rampant, the sparse imbroglio that took place in the country. The fatality reports of 51 people being killed and several injured from violence outbreaks in different parts of the nation was a bad omen.

The keen observers who were not only perched like a bird on the roof but also intervened to avert the looming doom.  They saw the violent trending that was comparable with a proverbial behaviour of abandoning a torch of fire on the roof and went asleep. They swiftly alerted and admonished the initiation and perpetrators of inflammation

KOFI ANNAN -

The ex-UN Secretary General, along persons of world - acclaimed personalities of eminence  who were mainly African and Nigerians organised peace accord for all presidential candidates contesting in 2015 elections. He encouraged them to shun violence and asked them to have their supporters brindled. This accord was made effective by ensuring all the contestants to undertake the agreement by appending their signatures.

His intervention was laudable and appreciated. This idea prompted Nigerian Police Force to organise such peace accord in respective states among the gubernatorial candidates.

ABDUL SALAM ABUBAKAR

His contemporary nationalistic passion, as in ensuring harmony and peace, is not amazing because to me he is a man of solicitude that has unpretentious love for his country.

He had humbly fulfilled his promise to return democracy to us when he was military Head of State.
He saw it as an onus on him to disallow and avoid truncation of democracy which he served actively as machinery for its rebirth in 1999

He was ominous like other people and Nigerians. He organised the second peace accord knowing very well that the first one was not efficient enough which was evident from the increase in spate of violence.

His timely intervention was effectual, deserved applause and more respect for having minimal violence and free and fair election.

FORMER PRESIDENT EBELE JONATHAN
It is odd; a habitual attitude of African leaders to sit tight eternally on helm of power. Government is run like patrilineal affairs. They explore through manipulative means to persist on power and destroy their enemies.

He was unlike them by taking critical decision. He followed the pact of pious nobility. His congratulatory message via the famous phone call to General Buhari Mohammed was appreciated in near and far of the world. An impression that expressed and justified his utterance ‘‘No Nigarian blood worths any ambitions of any politicians ''

Acceptance of defeat had percolative effect on intense heavy pendulum of violence. It significantly doused down the tension and volatile formation.

It was a gesture that finally broke the camel back of the his sycophants that intrigued in conspiracy to provoke and disrupt the entire polity. Also, a outstanding gesture which has engraved boldly in the history of Nigeria

PROF. ATTAHIRU JEGA

The kingpin- undoubtedly, the INEC Chairman was steadfast and neutral in steering the electioneering affairs. He was not diffident, not distracted in organising and conducting free and fair election despite condemnation, baseless allegation, threat.

His ingenuity of introducing PVC and ECR- Permanent Voters Card and Electronic Card Reader respectively enhanced the voting system; well embraced and appreciated for abating elections rigging and fraud drastically.

Jeaga has made indelible rut which makes him recognisable and esteemed. Many accolades have been received by him from both national and international admirers. His performance and contribution will ever be referenced to in Nigeria

PRESIDENT OBAMA

The popular US President message televised live and seen all over the world had enormous positivity. It shown that American government were nor flippant about our political affairs. Their solemnity about us was expressed by Obama for their readiness to have punitive measures for any politician who fomented kiosk. This speech put fear, restrain into the mind of political conspirators.

WE THE ELECTORATES

Before the election days, we shown genuine commitment to perform our civic duties. Our zeal to collect PVC to an extent to pay for it when some dubious INEC Adhoc officers demanded; we were so desperate to exercise our franchise..

We did not mind being scorched by the sun and drenched by the rain in election days.
Desperate politicians threw money everywhere to hoax us. We made their immoral enticement insignificant and not tempting.   We vote with our conscience genuinely and credibly by voting out the failure and simultaneously voting in the capable.

Above all, our cooperation with INEC Adhoc officers; shunning violence and disruption contributed to the violence-free elections.
